You’ll find Hiatus Coffee at the Hwb – the visitor information and booking hub at Swiss Valley Reservoir, where adventure, wellbeing, community and tranquillity meet.
Situated beside the Lower Lliedi Reservoir, the Hwb acts as the orientation point for visitors to the valley: a place to gather, ask questions, check in for activities, attend briefings, and set out to explore the landscape.
Alongside this central visitor role, Hiatus provides high-quality refreshments for guests enjoying the reservoir, its surrounding woodland walks, and the many recreational experiences based on the site.

Hiatus Coffee was established as part of the transformation of Swiss Valley Reservoir into a hub for recreation, health and wellbeing under Welsh Water’s pioneering Community Adoption Scheme — the first of its kind in Wales. Delivered through a partnership with Llanelli Rural Council, the adoption programme re-imagined the reservoir as a publicly accessible visitor destination focused on outdoor activity, community connection, environmental stewardship and wellbeing.
From the outset, local residents were clear: the valley needed a welcoming place to pause — somewhere visitors could orient themselves, connect with the site, and refresh while enjoying their time outdoors. Hiatus was created to fulfil part of that that role within the wider visitor experience.
Today, the Hwb remains the meeting and check-in point for water sports, wellness sessions and guided activities, with safety briefings and visitor information delivered directly from the hub. For walkers, families and day-trippers, it remains the natural first stop to discover what the valley has to offer.

In September 2025, Swiss Valley was formally recognised through the Welsh Government’s VAQAS accreditation, recognising the site’s quality visitor experience, accessibility standards and service provision across its facilities — including the visitor hub with refreshment offering.
That recognition reflects years of collaborative effort across the site: upgrading access, supporting inclusive activities, improving visitor amenities and ensuring the valley offers a welcoming experience for local communities and regional visitors alike.

The Hwb is more than a booking office — it is a genuine community touchpoint.
Each month we host Cuppa with a Copper, run in partnership with Dyfed-Powys Police, providing an open drop-in forum where residents can meet local officers, raise community concerns, and strengthen neighbourhood connections.
Beyond this, the site regularly supports community initiatives including:
These activities echo the founding purpose of the Community Adoption Scheme: tackling isolation, improving access to green and blue space, and strengthening community involvement through shared public spaces.

The Hwb provides visitor information, activity bookings and check-in facilities from a single point, supported by a modest outdoor seating area distributed across council-provided and community benches around the reservoir edge. There is no indoor seating, so make sure your bring your coats!
Our refreshment offering is intentionally simple and carefully framed: barista coffee, teas, milkshakes, ice cream, cakes, pasties and light oven-reheated items only, designed to support visitors while they enjoy the reservoir or activities on site.
This approach mirrors our ethos — refreshments enhance the outdoor experience; they do not replace it.

Hiatus means pause — and that spirit runs through everything we do.
Our aim is to provide an inviting space that quietly supports time spent outdoors, exploration, community encounter and moments of calm.
From warming cups on winter mornings to welcoming dogs with treats after a long walk, to spinning our activity prize wheel for families who linger a little longer — each detail is about enhancing the visitor experience without competing with the natural setting that defines Swiss Valley.

Our commitment to quality underpins the whole Hwb experience. We tested more than ten suppliers before choosing Gower Coffee for its rich flavour and ethical sourcing, and serve it in Churchill fine china crafted from Devon clay, warmed in winter to ensure every drink meets our standards.
Whether you’re collecting a drink before heading out on a trail, waiting for an activity session to begin, or catching your breath after an adventure, our goal is simple: to make every visit warm, welcoming and consistently excellent.
At Hiatus Coffee, everything we do supports the larger story of Swiss Valley — a place where nature, recreation, wellbeing and community meet.
Come by the Hwb, take your pause in the valley, and enjoy the simple pleasure of a brew with a view.
